Project Engineer – Operational Readiness LeadThis is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer with operational readiness experience to join a leading manufacturing business, working on a highly interesting project. The position will be based in the Northern part of Melbourne and is a full-time contract until the end of the year. Possible option for extension or to become a permanent role.
Job Description:To conduct and coordinate engineering activities for the facility expansion project and ensure effective handover of the project to routine operations beginning of 2026. The focus of this role will be to act as the Operational Readiness representative for the Maintenance and Utilities department and conduct engineering and maintenance services to support project delivery of the production areas (Bulk Process and Fill/Finish).
Responsibilities: Operational readiness Ensuring when plant is handed over its safe, reviewing maintenance Input into project throughout process Engineering and maintenance functions, factory acceptance testing site installation and commissioning Drawings and isolation plans Focus on maintenance – preventative maintenance, spare parts assessments Failure mode analysis – assessing what can be done to prevent failures Conduit between project and site engineering functions Will work between maintenance team to ensure decisions made are in best interest of engineering function and alignment with other facilities Ensure all safety considerations looked into Supporting commissioning activity Creating job plans, review information from maintenance perspective Reach out to suppliers Perform criticality assessments Liaise with internal and external stakeholders Will work with SAP Data entry and E&I team (don't need to be a SAP guru) Dotted line to Project Manager
Experience and Qualifications: Degree in an appropriate discipline (mechanical, electrical, chemical or other related discipline) from a recognised tertiary education institution, together with eligibility for professional membership of the relevant college of the Institute of Engineers. A minimum of 3 years experience in Maintenance/Process Engineering. Experience in running maintenance planning Experience/exposure to Capital Projects or Pharmaceuticals manufacture (cGxP systems) will be highly regarded GMP Experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office suite of programs. Familiarity with computerised maintenance management systems (i.e. SAP) A sound knowledge of plant diagnostic methods and reliability engineering. Prepared to undertake a concentrated period of learning to become competent in the role with both the site's Maintenance and utilities team and the project. Personal organisation and work planning skills. A logical/analytical approach to problem solving. A commitment to occupational health, safety and environment protection. A commitment to quality.
Nice to haves: Maintenance/Process Engineering experience specifically with highly automated pharmaceutical equipment. Pharmaceutical Bulk Processing or Fill/Finish experience Project Engineering or Operational Readiness experience Exposure to large Tier 1 capital projects Direction of maintenance personnel working on the plant Management of a computerised maintenance management system Operational experience in the requirements of the code of Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) in a Pharmaceutical environment.
