The key duties of the position include:The RoleJoint Capabilities Group (JCG) is seeking highly motivated and experienced APS6 to join the Cyber Security Strategy and Program (DCSSP) team. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the role will support the environmental scanning and analysis team to inform the development of Defence’s strategic direction in cyber security, considering the:
Geo-Strategic Environment;
Evolving Cyber Threats; and
Emerging and Disruptive Technologies.
The successful applicant will personally conduct research and analysis. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and possess demonstrated leadership experience, coupled with strong research and analytical skills to support the production of high quality reports and advice that informs strategic decision making. Stakeholder management skills will be critical in establishing and maintaining continuous engagement and collaboration with partner agencies, research organisations and industry.The successful candidate will be required to commence employment on site, with the possibility of flexible work arrangements in the future.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our TeamCyber Security Strategy and Program (CSSP) within JCG, the Directorate of CSSP is a small but influential team responsible for the development of the Defence Cyber Security Strategy and delivery of the associated Cyber Security Program.
CSSP delivers a critical function supporting Defence’s strategic direction and ensuring Defence maintains a robust and contemporary cyber security posture. CSSP is externally-focused and forward-thinking, driving initiatives to addresses both the impacts and opportunities presented by the evolving geo-strategic, cyber threat and technology landscape.
The Strategic Analysis team within CSSP conducts targeted research to identify trends and developments in the cybersecurity environment. The team identifies and assesses threats and opportunities relevant to Defence, and makes detailed recommendations on how Defence should effectively respond to ensure its continued protection from cyber threats.
Our Ideal CandidateWe are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated APS 6, who can:
Undertake research and analysis to develop insights that incorporate cyber security best practices and adhere to industry standards;
Provide input into processes, system requirements and in-house tools to ensure their suitability and effectiveness;
Establish and maintain effective and productive collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that recommendations are viable and relevant to the Defence mission;
Provide analysis, advice and recommendations to middle management on implications of changes in direction, policy, and initiatives across government, industry, think-tanks, academia and international partners that impact cyber security;
Develop, coach and mentor junior staff to build a high performing multi-disciplinary team that effectively delivers against the DCSSP mission;
Contribute to the development of the cyber strategic direction and plans to support and enhance the Defence cyber security environment and initiatives; and
Contribute to strengthening cyber domain capabilities by supporting the delivery of critical security outcomes.
EligibilitySecurity ClearanceApplicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance of 'Negative Vetting 1'.
