We are recognised as a leading legal service and have received national and local human rights and crime prevention awards for our work.Role OverviewIn partnership with Territory Families, Housing and Communities, NAAJA are seeking a Family Support Coordinator to support families with children and young people who have highly complex needs and are involved with/or are at risk of entering, the Youth Justice system. The coordinator will support one family support worker to deepen and develop their skills through mentoring, informal coaching, debriefing, education and information. They will have excellent family assessment skills and are able to draw upon a broad range of evidence informed practices, theories and knowledge to inform and guide case analysis and decision making.Benefits6 Weeks annual leave with loading as well as other generous leave entitlementsExtensive salary packaging options through Access PayFlexible working arrangementsSelection CriteriaKnowledge and understanding of the issues which affect Aboriginal people involved with the Child Protection System.Extensive experience in the provision of case management support to Aboriginal families.Demonstrated practical experience in managing a caseload of clients with challenging behaviours and/or complex issues.Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of young people, particularly the effects that peer pressure, alcohol and other drug use and experiences of trauma have on young Aboriginal people.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, sensitively and in a culturally appropriate manner with Aboriginal young people and adults, their families, community members and other relevant people.Demonstrated ability to maintain client confidentiality and an awareness of the issues relating to privacy within the Aboriginal community and the work environment. An awareness of mandatory reporting obligations in relation to domestic and family violence and childhood harm and neglect.Demonstrated skills and abilities in the preparation of clear, concise written communication, including the ability to analyse and extract relevant information for the purpose of preparing formal reports, assessments, and other relevant documentation.Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the child protection system, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child placement principal, Territory Families services and other relevant legislation.Ability to work as an effective member of a team in a community organisation, maintain a team culture that is collaborative, positive, and supportive; and model conduct that is consistent with NAAJA values.Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice.Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are highly encouraged to apply.Role Type
