As part of its growth, they are seeking a Legal Counsel – Commercial to provide high-quality legal advice to the business and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including supplier, distribution, and partnership agreements.
* Provide legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and business operations.
* Support procurement, sales, and marketing teams in managing contracts and legal inquiries.
* Advise on intellectual property matters, including trademarks, patents, and copyright.
* Identify legal risks and provide strategic solutions to mitigate them.
* Oversee dispute resolution, providing guidance on claims and conflicts.
* Conduct due diligence for strategic business initiatives and partnerships.
* Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations across the business.
* Deliver legal training to internal stakeholders, promoting compliance and legal awareness.
* Monitor changes in legislation and advise on their impact on the business.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes and contract management.
* Manage relationships with external legal advisors, ensuring cost efficiency and effective service.
Qualifications and Experience
* Legal qualification with a current Australian practising certificate.
* Proven experience in commercial law, ideally in-house within retail, manufacturing, or FMCG sectors.
* Strong drafting, negotiation, and contract management experience.
* Solid understanding of intellectual property, competition law, and consumer protection regulations.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
* A proactive approach, with the ability to balance legal considerations and commercial objectives.
* High attention to detail, excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
* Team player with a commitment to continuous improvement.
