The team provides specialist services for young people, children and families, adults, and older people.
Community mental health services include a specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Team, bilingual mental health workers, and Peer Support Workers.
The role will be based at Camperdown.
This position will lead the successful planning, implementation, and management of the Alternatives to Emergency Departments (Safe Haven) model of support.
The Alternatives to Emergency Departments Initiatives will create new services for people presenting to emergency with suicide ideation.
It will offer a safe, de-medicalised, and casual space for people to rapidly access the support that they need.
The Senior Clinician will provide clinical expertise and is responsible for contributing to and implementing a model of care that is consumer-oriented, evidence-based, sustainable, and has a strong evaluation component.
This position will be required to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in particular Emergency Departments and Mental Health Acute Care teams, and key partner organisations or services including primary care and those funded by CESPHN for follow-up support.
The Alternatives to Emergency Departments team includes 2 FTE Peer Support Workers, that are operationally managed by the Senior Clinician.
The Senior Clinician will provide high-quality recovery-oriented, trauma-informed support in collaboration with Peer workers to people who use the safe haven.
The safe haven is a suicide prevention service that provides a warm welcoming space for people experiencing suicidal crisis where compassionate care is provided in a non-clinical environment.
The safe haven aims to provide an alternative to attending an emergency department when distressed by suicidal crisis.
As the SLHD Safe Haven moves to extended operating hours, the hours of the role are: Monday to Friday morning and afternoon shifts, with the view to weekend opening times in the future.
Must hold a Bachelor or post-graduate degree in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or Clinical Psychology that provides eligibility for full membership of the relevant professional association and/or AHPRA; For Clinical Psychologist must hold a post-graduate degree in clinical psychology (Masters, and/or Doctorate or Ph D) that provides eligibility for full membership of the APS and ACPA.
For Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 must have a minimum of five years full-time equivalent post-registration experience with at least 3 years full-time equivalent Mental Health experience.
Current NSW Drivers Licence (P1 and P2 acceptable).
Understanding of and commitment to recovery-oriented services and consumer involvement in service design, implementation, and evaluation.
