Location: Beaufort River, Albany & Great Southern WA Sector: Veterinary Services & Animal Welfare (Farming, Animals & Conservation)Government: Federal (Government & Defence) Key Responsibilities: Provide Expert Advice: Offer veterinary and technical advice on public health, food safety, and the quality of meat products, supporting establishment management and stakeholders to align with regulatory standards. Ensure Compliance: Ensure the establishment meets legal obligations under the Export Control Act 2020 and related legislation, monitoring compliance through the Meat Establishment Verification System (MEVS). Maintain Veterinary Standards: Stay informed on developments in veterinary science and legislative changes, applying best practices in quality assurance and standards. Animal Welfare: Oversee animal welfare compliance with state, national, and international standards, monitoring and reporting outcomes. Inspection and Examinations: Conduct or supervise ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections, ensuring compliance with Australian Standard for production of meat and meat products (AS 4696:2023). Emergency Preparedness: Contribute to veterinary emergency management and onsite emergency animal disease preparedness plans. Training and Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of veterinary and non-veterinary staff, chairing weekly meetings and providing feedback on KPIs. Sampling and Testing: Collect samples for disease testing and verify compliance with substance regulations. As a Live Animal Veterinarian, you will: Perform quarantine and export duties across Australia, in compliance with export and biosecurity legislation. Review export and import documentation, issue export permits and health certificates, and approve facilities for live animals and reproductive material. Provide technical advice and training to departmental staff and stakeholders. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required. Contribute to the efficient operation of the Live Animal Section in VEMB. What We Are Looking For: Knowledge and Experience: Understanding of public health veterinary science and biosecurity requirements. Mandatory Qualifications: Veterinary degree from an Australian university or equivalent, registered or eligible for registration with the relevant state/territory veterinary board.
