Role Overview: The EL1 Assistant Director, Evidence Synthesis, supports the planning and conduct of evidence reviews (systematic reviews, meta-analyses) and primary research to provide top-quality research evidence for Agency decisions. This junior leadership role involves team management, priority setting, and workflow oversight, with reasonable autonomy to apply initiative and judgment in interpreting legislation and policy to achieve functional outcomes.
Key Responsibilities;
1. Working with internal & external stakeholders to scope, develop and manage project plans.
2. Designing and documenting protocols for environmental scans, evidence snapshots, scoping or systematic reviews of evidence relevant to participants or models of practice.
3. Conducting searches of scientific and grey literature in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) standards.
4. Performing research in line with documented protocols for inclusion/exclusion of records, data extraction, quality appraisal and data synthesis.
5. Maintaining project related records including research software or platforms.
6. Engaging with external and internal stakeholders to interpret findings and support translation.
7. Preparing and presenting research reports and recommendations for different stakeholders, including internal slide-pack summaries for stakeholders.
8. Contributing methodological or subject matter expertise in research methods, psychosocial disability, early childhood interventions or neurological disorders or other areas with relevance to disability supports.
9. Supervising a small team on ad-hoc or ongoing basis
10. Supporting the growth of junior staff
11. Leading or supporting broader projects across the Branch
Essential to be successful in this role;
12. Planning & conducting systematic reviews of research evidence
13. Familiarity with evidence synthesis methods
14. Prior research experience in disability, psychology, medicine, epidemiology, education, economics, social science, statistics or related fields
15. Prior experience in government or NGOs is not required
16. Current valid NPC or able to obtain one
