About the role
Under the supervision of your team leader, the Senior Youth Justice Officer (SYJO) case manage young people subject to community supervision orders and young people at risk of offending, with the aim of reducing re-offending, protecting the community, and working closely with family, to guide young people towards the adoption of law-abiding lifestyles to contribute towards safer communities. A rewarding career choice in witnessing a young person take control of their future through their goals and aspirations, of which the SYJO is seen as an integral cog in the journey.
SYJOs use research led, contemporary world best practice counselling and interventions to affect those positive behaviour changes. SYJOs undertake their duties with an understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse cultural groups. The positions in Kununurra work with a close-knit team, with all members of the team fully focused on working with young people and their families to achieve positive results. About you
Youth Justice Services is responsible for the safety, security, and rehabilitation of young people in the community and in custody. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who can join a positive, team orientated Centre, enjoys a challenge working in the remote Kimberley region, and wants to make a difference in the lives of young people who we work with.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
Regional and remote travel may be required within this position both in four-wheel drive vehicles (C Class Drivers licence required) and light aircraft.
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector it is essential that you are an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the duration of the contract.
All employees are required to undergo employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.
