About our team Group Manager Legal | Group Manager Legal | Commercial Employment & Info Law | Commercial Law Commercial Law is responsible for providing legal assistance to the Department on a wide range of complex and strategic procurements and contracts, some of the highest value in the Commonwealth.
We work across a broad variety of teams in the Department and Portfolio.
We support procurements for essential goods and services which enable the Department to carry out its core functions including border management, and the provision of programs and initiatives, related to national security, immigration, and humanitarian programs.
The Section plays an important role in providing legal advice on Commonwealth contracting policies, the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, grants, property law including leases, intellectual property, memoranda of understanding, international law, probity and dispute resolution.
At the forefront of our work is the need to minimise risk to the Department and ensure value for money outcomes are achieved by business areas where possible.

Duties and responsibilities Manage internal and external stakeholders (including relationships with external legal service providers) in high profile, and often time sensitive matters Demonstrate your technical legal expertise and be able to think strategically to help deliver major projects Provide sound written and verbal legal advice in response to business area requests, along with excellent attention to detail Exercise high level judgment and common sense in order to think critically to develop legal solutions for the Department, both on a reactive and proactive basis Act in a collegiate manner, developing and maintaining personnel professional knowledge and team-wide expertise.
Additional information Essential Qualifications: A degree in law from an Australian university, or a comparable overseas degree which is recognised in Australia for admission to practice Practising Certificate or eligibility to attain one At least two years' post qualification experience will be highly regarded.

Eligibility To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
