The Role Within the DSTG Infrastructure team, the Director Infrastructure Strategy & Planning works with considerable independence and is accountable to perform and achieve very complex infrastructure outcomes within an integrated workforce. They will have the ability to make a major contribution to the planning of DSTG infrastructure requirements from near to long term, working cooperatively with stakeholders from across DSTG, Defence and external partners.
Facilitating the coordination and prioritisation of infrastructure requirements across the Science and Technology staff within the group will be a key activity. The Director reports to the Executive Director Research Operations.
The Director will perform an important leadership role in developing infrastructure strategies and plans, based on stakeholder input. The plans will deliver fit for purpose infrastructure to support Defence Innovation, Science and Technology outcomes. The Director will have an awareness of both DSTG and Defence capability priorities as well as government decision-making processes relating to infrastructure and capability programs.
Infrastructure plans will be delivered through Defence delivery arrangements not managed by DSTG, so the occupant will need to understand those delivery arrangements and work effectively with key stakeholders including the two DSTG Infrastructure Operations Directors. High-level decision making and judgement will be required.
Flexible working arrangements are available in accordance with the Defence Enterprise Agreement with ongoing training and development encouraged through the many resources available to Defence staff. Some interstate travel will be required.

They will be self-motivated, have the ability to work relatively independently with broad guidance and direction to deliver well-written and considered strategic plans that deliver long-term benefits to DSTG and Defence. A passion for infrastructure planning or management and experience working in or with Defence would be advantageous but not essential.
