About Us
The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is a unique emergency service agency responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland. It comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service, and the State Emergency Service.
Purpose of the Role
The QFES functions are distinct from other agencies in Australia, providing high-quality fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a single entity. This collaborative approach improves safety outcomes for the community.
Key Requirements
* Mandatory Requirements:
o A written consent from employers to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable)
o Lives or works within a reasonable distance of an auxiliary fire station
o Australian Permanent Resident Status
o A manual C Class driver's licence
* Commitments throughout employment:
o Attend 50% of incident and emergency calls as a day worker with routine hours; or 30% of calls as a shift worker or have non-routine hours
o Attend 75% of regular drill and training sessions
o Obtain an MRV licence at their own expense within 12 months of employment
o Participate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs, including first aid/emergency care
o Comply with QFES policies and procedures, including code of conduct, safety, and personal presentation standards
Your Key Accountabilities
* Respond to fire and other emergency incidents as part of a team
* Promote community safety and emergency preparedness by contributing to community education activities
* Develop and maintain competencies through regular drills and training courses provided by the QFES
* Maintain attendance standards for emergency incidents and training
* Operate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively
* Contribute to the upkeep and hygiene of station facilities
* Ensure maintenance and repair of operational equipment and station facilities
* Contribute to incident reporting and general station administration as required
