Sino Iron is the largest magnetite mining and downstream processing operation in Australia, located kms Southwest of Karratha in the mining hub of the Pilbara.
Our fully integrated operation features an open pit mine serviced by the biggest haul trucks in the world, a six-line concentrator and port terminal facilities at nearby Cape Preston. Our state-of-the-art power station and desalination plant are among the largest in the State.
The Opportunity
We’re seeking a driven and progressive Manager – Industrial Relations who will lead the IR strategy for the business and our workforce, at a critical time given the sweeping industrial relations changes.
Reporting to the Director Human Resources, the position is responsible for overseeing the industrial and employee relations management, developing, and implementing the strategies, reviewing, and mitigating the risks to protect CPM and the Sino Iron Project. The role will provide exposure to several areas from mining to power generation, contractor management, and marine.
The role includes but not limited to:
1. Managing the risks and developing and implementing approved IR/ER contingencies/plans to minimise the impact on the business;
2. Keeping abreast of the industrial relations legislation changes, and trends and guiding the senior management and business on these;
3. Managing union visits and communications with all unions across the business, including the interface at a State and Federal level;
4. Managing and leading the industrial negotiations, collective/individual grievances, industrial action, union official breaches under the Act and any adverse/unfair dismissal claims;
5. Managing and coordinating the interface with legal employment practitioners on the various IR/ER matters.
To be successful in the role you will have:
6. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources/Employee Relations;
7. Solid experience in industrial relations, ideally in the mining/resources industry;
8. Proven leadership and practical industrial relations experience gained from multi-union mining and construction sites;
9. Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to consult at all levels of the business;
10. You are a people leader who is motivated, and results-driven, with the ability to provide the necessary leadership to the senior management and business.
11. A current WA Manual Drivers licence is an essential requirement.
