Who we are We work with national and international governments and industry partners to grow the value of agricultural trade and reduce risk to the agricultural sector. We provide international representation of Australia's animal health status and systems and influence international policy and standards and provide strategic analysis of, influence, and champion Australia's animal health systems and services. The Office of the Australian Chief Veterinary Officer's One Health Program works to improve biosecurity, health and economic outcomes through a unified approach to tackling threats to animal, human, plant and ecosystem health at their source. We achieve this by advocating for the importance of animal and ecosystem health as precursors to public health, and delivering strong leadership, advocacy and technical support to implement and embed coordinated, collaborative One Health approaches to understanding and mitigating health challenges that impact the department's stakeholders and communities in Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and globally. The One Health Program's objectives are to: Improve, monitor and promote the animal sector's antimicrobial usage and stewardship practices and contribute to the broader One Health goal of minimising the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance to ensure the continued availability of effective antimicrobials. Mitigate the threat of emerging and re-emerging diseases of zoonotic potential. Develop and embed effective One Health governance for Australia in partnership with stakeholders, including on high pathogenicity avian influenza response mechanisms. Support effective One Health practice in Australia through ongoing communication, coordination, collaboration and capacity building, in conjunction with the interim Australian Centre for Disease Control. Contribute to sustainable One Health capacity and capability in the South-east Asia and Pacific region. The key duties of the position include The Job We are seeking a collaborative, focussed and motivated individual to provide technical and policy leadership on a range of One Health issues within Australia's animal health system. The key duties include but are not limited to: Providing technical and/or policy expertise to develop and inform the department's position in national and international One Health forums, ensuring a strong supporting evidence base. Leading development, implementation and evaluation of projects to strengthen Australia's systems for monitoring and managing the threat of antimicrobial resistance in the animal sector. Developing and promoting meaningful One Health collaboration with other Australian government and non-government organisations and experts to effectively prevent, prepare for and respond to disease threats of One Health significance. Leading development of submissions, recommendations, briefings, and presentations on a range of One Health matters and ensuring these are consistent with team and department strategic priorities. Actively managing key One Health initiatives and partnerships, including engaging with stakeholders such as the interim Australian Centre for Disease Control, the Department of Health and Aged Care, state and territory governments, peak animal industry groups, Animal Health Australia and Wildlife Health Australia.
