At Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, we are responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through effective prevention, preparation, response, and recovery activities. Our team comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service, and the State Emergency Service, supporting volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders. We have a collaborative approach across our service and with key stakeholders, delivering improved safety outcomes for the community.
Purpose of the Role
The functions of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are unique, as we are the only entity in Australia that delivers high-quality fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services through a single agency. This approach allows us to respond effectively to emergencies and provide the best possible outcomes for our community.
Key Requirements
* We require all auxiliary firefighters to commit to attending incidents and emergencies. This includes:
* Attending 50% of calls as a day worker with routine hours, or
* Attending 30% of calls as a shift worker or having non-routine hours
Auxiliary firefighters must also attend 75% of regular drill and training sessions and participate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs, including first aid/emergency care. Additionally, they must obtain an MRV licence within 12 months of employment and comply with QFES policies and procedures.
Your Key Accountabilities
* As a member of a team, you will respond to fire and other emergency incidents.
* You will promote community safety and emergency preparedness by contributing to community education activities.
* You will develop and maintain competencies by actively participating in regular drills and other relevant training courses provided by the QFES.
* You will maintain the required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
* You will operate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment in a safe and effective manner.
* You will contribute to upkeep and hygiene of station facilities.
* You will ensure maintenance and repair of operational equipment and station facilities.
* You will contribute to incident reporting and general station administration as required.
