The Genetic Metabolic Disorders Service at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead is a multidisciplinary service offering comprehensive care to patients with complex inborn errors of metabolism. The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) will provide an expert nurse consultancy service to patients, carers and other health professionals regarding paediatric nursing care of complex inborn errors of metabolism. The CNC will support clinical care across the continuum of speciality care, involving both inpatient and community-based. The CNC will strengthen the integration of local health service and community health service involvement for patients .
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will provide expert clinical care and education to children and their carers within a defined specialty.
The role provides a consultancy and educational focus for nurses in the care of children and their families.
In collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders, the Clinical Nurse Consultant will undertake primary responsibility for ongoing identification, development and evaluation of clinical practice.
1. Registered Nurse with a current Licence to practice from Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in nursing paediatric patients with complex medical conditions.
2. Relevant approved post registration qualification relevant to the field of practice at master’s level or working towards or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
3. Proven clinical leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
4. Demonstrated high level communication and inter-personal skills. Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
5. Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning and including and understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
6. Demonstrated competency in the use of contemporary information systems, clinical teaching, the development of specialty education programs and computer literacy. Demonstrated provision of a child and family centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Applicants holding visas with working rights may be considered for temporary appointment (up to the expiry date of their visa) where no suitable local applicant is identified. Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
