Come and be a part of this success About the Role Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) is an integrated system of four processing hubs and five mining hubs, connected by more than 1,000 kilometres of rail infrastructure and port facilities in the Pilbara region of northern Western Australia. We are currently seeking a Head of Health, Safety & Security (HSS) to join the WAIO Leadership team, where you will provide senior leadership to teams focused on the strategic management of health, hygiene, security, safety and emergency, along with related assurance issues, processes and initiatives for the business. Reporting to the Asset President WAIO you will be accountable for: Managing, improving and providing expertise on safety risk management practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance. Responding to, managing and providing specialist/functional expertise on health related risks to uplift organisational capability in health management. Designing, managing and improving safety related controls, systems, processes and resources. Determining the underlying cause of problems and evaluating multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems. Identifying, engaging and managing a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. Identifying and assessing risks, whilst making informed decisions using our risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. Gaining support for and negotiating outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals. Applying an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. Championing continuous HSS performance and workforce capability improvement through development and delivery of industry best practices and strategic initiatives. Identifying HSS insights and emerging trends to proactively focus leadership attention and shape future improvement strategies. Managing efficient and effective delivery of HSS services that preserve regulatory and corporate compliance. Collaborating with industry and business peers to advance identification, development, and replication of HSS best practices and initiatives. Continually improve HSS professional capability through inclusive development feedback, coaching and mentoring. Role model exceptional HSS leadership behaviours and practices in accordance with the BHP Charter Values. As the Head of HSS – WAIO, you will be based in Perth. Travel to site is required. About You As a seasoned leader, you will have strong experience working in mining operations or in an established HSS (or HSE) function, where you have developed an understanding of Health, Safey Management systems and legislation. You will be confident in operating in a complex and matrixed work environment, where you will draw on your ability to strategize and problem solve to deliver on outcomes that positively impact the safe production. You are at ease in working across internal and external (including regulators) stakeholders and gain credibility through your technical mastery, leadership and excellent communication skills. Energetic and results-orientated, you work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple and interdependent deadlines. It is important that you are an experienced people leader who has demonstrated success in building and leading diverse and high performing teams to achieve outstanding business results, whilst also playing a key mentor role in your teams ongoing professional development. A tertiary qualification in a Health & Safety related field, Science, Engineering or Risk Management is required.
