The Opportunity: We have an exciting opportunity available for a Pro Bono Lawyer to join us in Melbourne on a full-time permanent basis. Ashurst is proud to have Pro Bono as a stand-alone legal practice - our work to deliver quality free legal services for pro bono clients provided in accordance with our established pro bono criteria. This role will work closely with our Pro Bono Counsel in Melbourne, and the wider Australia pro bono team, including the Global Pro Bono Partner, with the day-to-day running of the firm's Australian pro bono practice. As a Pro Bono Lawyer with Ashurst, some of your main responsibilities will be: Assisting with managing the Australian pro bono referrals practice including Assisting with managing pro bono secondments and legal clinics in our Melbourne office Client development and networking for the Australian pro bono practice with a focus on Victoria, in line with Ashurst's commitment to the Australian Pro Bono Centre's National Pro Bono Target Undertaking a part-time pro bono secondment (at least 1 day/week) at a community legal centre based in Victoria Undertaking work on pro bono matters and legal clinics Assisting with pro bono reporting A full job description including a breakdown of responsibilities can be found attached to the role on our careers pagehttp://careers.ashurst.com/ We are interested in hearing from people who have: An Australian practising certificate Existing experience in a dedicated pro bono role at a commercial law firm A passion for pro bono and supporting people facing marginalisation, disadvantage and financial hardship The ability to be team-focused and also work independently Empathetic and thorough interpersonal and client care skills We value diverse perspectives at Ashurst, so even if you don't feel you meet all of the requirements, we still encourage you to apply.
