GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based on Gunaikurnai Country in Bairnsdale, Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not for Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC is a child safe agency and has a zero tolerance of abuse or neglect of children and young people.
Position Purpose
The Family Support Worker position is part of the Integrated Family Services (IFS) team that provides families with support to promote a stable and nurturing environment for children and young people. Such families present with a range of risks (from very high risk through to low risk) and will be supported across various IFS programs. The Family Support Worker provides intensive, effective, and professional support to Aboriginal families over a specified duration that meets their immediate needs in strengthening their ability to provide a safe and caring environment for their children.
Key Selection Criteria
* A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local community.
* Ability to provide intensive case support to families that promotes the best interest of the child/ren.
* Committed to supporting the best interest of children and young people.
* Ability to provide a high-quality service to families with complex needs, including crisis intervention and supporting the safety and wellbeing of children and their families.
* Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, work independently and effectively as part of a team.
* Demonstrated capacity to maintain sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and always remain impartial.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable)
* A tertiary qualification in Early Childhood Development, Infant Mental health, Social Work, Psychology or equivalent. ESSENTIAL
* Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar work setting ESSENTIAL
* A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
* A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
* Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
