At Melton Specialist School, the Therapy Assistant:
1. Works under supervision and in association with the Allied Health Team
2. Works collaboratively and under the direction of /occupational therapists or physiotherapists
3. Runs intervention sessions (individual or group) under guidance of an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
4. Supports school camps and excursions
5. Creates and manages resources for the Allied Health Team
6. Completes administration tasks as directed an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
Responsibilities
7. Discipline specific assistant responsibilities:
8. Implement Occupational Therapy or movement intervention programs under the guidance of Allied Health professionals
9. Administer informal assessments under guidance of allied health professionals
10. Update and follow work plan as discussed with therapy team leader
11. Communication with allied health professionals regarding student progress, sessions, intervention strategies and feedback
12. Create and update resources for Therapy teams
13. Assist with the supervision of students, in playgrounds, at the bus bay, in sporting activities, therapy activities, etc. if required.
14. Create and manage resources for classrooms and Allied Health Team
15. Administrative responsibilities:
16. Filing notes and other documents in paper or electronic file
17. General tidy up of therapy room, sensory room, filling cabinets and shelves
18. Reorganising student files
19. Respond to phone calls and pass on any messages to appropriate person
20. Support staff in collecting students from buses
21. Charge and maintain equipment, replace batteries, update vocabulary, create visuals
22. Setup/pack up equipment for programs
23. Professional Conduct:
24. Attend team meetings as necessary
25. Participate in performance reviews
26. Work within the policies and procedures of Melton Specialist School
27. Adhere to privacy legislation
28. Demonstrate strong commitment to ongoing professional development
29. Communicate directly to the supervising Therapist. Reports issues, discuss complex cases and queries with the therapy team leader.
30. Promote a safe and supportive school environment by following safe work practices and OH&S requirements.
