Your new role The Asset Allocation team is responsible for the asset allocation performance in AustralianSuper’s multi-asset portfolios. The team conducts macro research, investment strategy research and portfolio construction for the diversified options to ensure they deliver their return objective within constraints. The flagship product is the Balanced option with the vast majority of member assets. The team is also responsible for managing five other diversified options across the risk / return spectrum. Within the Asset Allocation team, the Thematic and Long Term Strategy team provides research on structural drivers of global markets and recommends portfolio positions to add value for members. Reporting to the Director – Long Term Strategy, the role of the Senior Analyst – Long Term Strategy is designed to support portfolio positioning recommendations by conducting quantitative and qualitative research that links thematic drivers together and draws conclusions for markets. This is a 12 month contract role based in either Melbourne or Sydney. Your responsibilities will include: Undertaking research and building investment processes to contribute insights to the asset allocation process for the Balanced option; Researching long-run strategy issues impacting asset classes, including macro and fundamental return drivers, valuations, policy and themes. Analysing risks and opportunities; Utilising economic, financial and market data to model and analyse key drivers of asset class returns; Working with other members of the Asset Allocation and asset class teams to best express long-run and thematic research in the Balanced and other multi-asset investment options; Contributing to and managing research projects to improve the portfolio’s performance potential across the following key areas: Adjacent opportunities, such as the sourcing, research and implementation of new asset classes, and alternative investment benchmarks; Risk management to ensure the portfolio’s balance between risk and return is optimal; Preparing reports (in collaboration with other members from the investment department) for senior management that document conclusions and, where necessary, provide recommendations to improve portfolio positioning from a tactical perspective; Preparing papers tabled at the Investment Committee, the Board and external presentations that relate to portfolio construction, risk and asset allocation; Actively contributing opinions and ideas to the Asset Allocation team’s various investment and team meetings; Contributing to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages collaboration, creativity and innovation; Mentoring more junior staff, including graduates and interns, as required. What You’ll Need Previous experience in economics and/or financial markets research and analysis with a superannuation fund, institutional investment manager, investment bank or research house; Tertiary qualifications in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Studies or a related field; Strong understanding of economic principles, investment principles, investment instruments and financial markets; Quantitative modelling, backtesting and data visualisation skills; Strong financial modelling skills, particularly Excel. Experience with econometric modelling software an advantage; Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into concise investment conclusions and communicate them in a clear and authoritative manner; Completed or undertaking postgraduate studies in an investment field, e.g. CFA or discipline relevant to asset allocation is strongly preferred.
