Who we are The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to: maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it protect the Antarctic environment understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance. The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands. The Operations and Logistics Branch oversees our operations in Antarctica - supporting people in our year-round research stations and remote field bases. The branch oversees air and sea transport (and the contracts to manage Australia's icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina and Aviation capabilities) to transport expeditioners south and enable them to travel around Antarctica. We have staff with diverse skills, located primarily in Tasmania, in Antarctica and on Macquarie Island. The Operations Management Centre (OMC), functions from within the Operations Branch and is responsible for direction and coordination of program-wide operations, including: to plan, monitor, synchronise and as required control operations and other activities on behalf of General Manager Operations to enable a strong situational understanding of priority scientific, infrastructure and operational projects supporting the achievement of Australian Antarctic Program objectives co-ordinate, plan and manage operational engagement with external agencies and other National Antarctic Programs monitoring the delivery of significant operational activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean (i.e. including vessel movements for station resupply, cargo and transport aircraft operations and major field activities) against season, station and Program plans providing prioritisation, coordination, integration and de-confliction of key operational activities, including by direct engagement with external agencies, other National Antarctic Programs, Station, Voyage and Field leadership teams on behalf of the AAD Executive and in reference to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), acting to determine the safest course of action where environmental, technical, resource or operational events require material changes to transport or activity schedules the provision of facilitation functions for all AAD Incident Management exercises and events through direct consultation with internal operations and logistics stakeholders, keeping the AAD Executive and external stakeholders apprised of operational capabilities, risks and emerging issues. Operational coordination and tasking will be aligned with strategic objectives, recognising asset and resource requirements, safety considerations, risks and constraints. The OMC, led by the EL2 Chief of Operations and staffed by several Watchkeeping and associated support personnel, will manage the delivery of the above services to the program through the administration of a dedicated operations room and associated facilities. The operations Management Centre will serve as a focal point for the aggregation, assessment and distribution of information to enable a high degree of situational awareness across the full spectrum of Program operations. The key duties of the position include Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to develop, review, update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, Business Rules, external operational contact lists and Watch documentation against an evolving program with operational constraints. Support the establishment and prioritisation of business improvements to ensure OMC capabilities, systems and facilities continue to meet current and future operational demands and deliverables. Proactively coordinate training for the section to ensure the Operations Management Centre's capabilities meet current and future operational demands. Working effectively and with minimal direction within the Operations Management Centre to develop and maintain succinct, flexible communications which reflect an appropriate level of detail and provide useful guidance for the intended audience. Preparation and delivery of reports for the Operations Systems and Coordination Manager relating to priorities and deliverables. Provide support and advice to AAp stakeholders regarding the capabilities and constraints of the Operations Management Centre. Support in the development and maintenance of rosters for watch keeping personnel to enable effective, uninterrupted operations management support while AAp operations are underway. Provide support in the development of business continuity plans for the Operations Management Centre. Oversee administrative tasks to support AAp operations. Supervise a small, professional team of administrative personnel.
