$115,899 - $130,733 up to 15.4% Superannuation Campbell Park - ACT The Role The Mental Health & Wellbeing (MHW) Branch is seeking an EL 1 Advisor in Primary Prevention and Population Health (3PH). This role requires specialised knowledge and expertise in strategic health and wellbeing promotion at the population and systems level, applied to the Defence context. As a critical member of the Strategic Advisory Group within the Mental Health and Wellbeing Branch, the Advisor, 3PH will collaborate with an integrated team of Australian Public Service (APS) and Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel to: Provide subject matter expertise (SME) to elevate Defence's approach to health and wellbeing promotion, with a focus on structural prevention methods. Influence and guide the strategic direction of policies, programs, and initiatives affecting the mental health and wellbeing of Australia's Defence population. Shape Defence's priorities for population health and wellbeing research, translation, and application. Assist senior leadership by applying socioecological frameworks to address complex, population-level health and wellbeing challenges, including in actioning recommendations from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide Final Report. Lead efforts to understand and address the social and structural determinants of health (SSDH) impacting pre-joiner and current serving communities. Guide the adoption and integration of consistent population health terminology and concepts, such as primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention; socioecological systems; priority populations; and health equity, tailored to the Defence environment. Strengthen and align Defence capacity in primary prevention and population health in support of Defence's mission. Foster strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across Defence, government, industry, and academia. About our Team The Mental Health & Wellbeing (MHW) Branch was established in 2023 to unify and enhance mental health and wellbeing programs, policies, and services across Defence. The team is a multidisciplinary mix of military and civilian personnel working towards a common goal: improving the mental health and wellbeing of the Defence community. The Branch is responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of preventative health strategies. By leveraging evidence-based research and a collaborative approach, the MHW Branch aims to enhance the overall wellbeing of Defence people. The Strategic Advisory Group within the MHW Branch is a high-performing team of public health and allied health SMEs. This team provides evidence-based research, insights, and policy guidance to advance Defence's mental health, wellbeing, and suicide prevention system.
