An exciting opportunity currently exists for an experienced Grade 2 Speech Pathologist to join our dynamic and supportive Allied Health team. Reporting to the manager of Allied Health, the successful candidate will provide Speech Pathology assessment and management of acute inpatients, including patients in ICU. The position requires an enthusiastic, autonomous and motivated person who is able to work independently, but cohesively with the VMO's (Visiting Medical Officers), nursing staff, Dietitian and Allied Health team.
Duties include:
* Assessment and management of patients in accordance with up-to-date knowledge of and currently accepted Speech Pathology Australia professional standards of practice.
* Development of department clinical policies as per current best practice.
* Provision of information and counselling regarding communication, cognition and swallowing disorders to patients, carers and other staff as required.
* Participation in quality improvement investigations and activities.
* Effective communication of Speech Pathology intervention, recommendations and discharge plan to all relevant team members including VMO's (Visiting Medical Officers), nursing staff and Dietitian.
* Participation in internal and external professional development where appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) or Bachelor of Speech Pathology or equivalent.
* Eligible for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
* Minimum 4 years' experience in clinical adult Speech Pathology.
* Experience in Speech Pathology management of patients with disorders of communication and swallowing in a hospital setting, including video fluoroscopy assessment.
* Excellent communication, time management skills and a high degree of flexibility.
