The position is accredited for 24 months of training and offers 6 month rotations through Geriatric Rehabilitation, Community Rapid Access (BRACE) and Palliative Care / Geriatric Evaluation and Management at Mona Vale Hospital and 6 months in Orthogeriatrics at the Northern Beaches Hospital. The Advanced Trainee will provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments. Mona Vale Hospital Mona Vale Hospital is a subacute facility providing the following services: 24 bed Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) for Geriatric Rehabilitation 26 bed Beachside Rehabilitation Unit (BRU) for General Rehabilitation, Stroke and Amputees 20 bed Palliative Care and Geriatric Assessment and Management Unit 24/7 Urgent Care Centre, treating patients with minor injury and illnesses Community Health Centre The hospital is located in a beautiful beachside setting, is accessible via Public Transport or alternately offers free parking for those using their own transport and is close to shopping centres and other community / social facilities. The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs, extensive digital imaging / diagnostic facilities, medical centre collocated with ED, state of the art education and interactive SIM centre and a Helipad for Emergency Transport. The Northern Beaches Hospital provides a high standard of education and training, with dedicated supervisors, teachers and a JMO Unit that supports all activities related to rostering, training, education and welfare of junior doctors. On level 4 of the 9-storey hospital is the Education Centre where doctors can access a range of facilities. These include the latest technology for teaching, simulation and presentations, plus various meeting rooms and conference areas. There is capability to stream education sessions to/from other facilities, as well as within the hospital for the simulation rooms and theatres. What you'll be doing To provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments. Qualifications - External Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care. High level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
