Linux Administrator (Level 2) All work conducted onsite (no remote work)Occasional travel to other locations within Australia or overseas may be required. Security Clearance Level: NV1 Overview This Linux Administrator position is crucial to the client operations, tasked with managing and supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL ) systems critical to the department environments. The Level 2 Linux Administrator will ensure the effective operation and security of RHEL systems, performing tasks in both production and non-production environments. Responsibilities include ensuring systems meet performance standards, maintaining compliance with ITSM policies, and actively supporting major exercises and peak training events. Responsibilities: May be required to provide team leader functions; if this is required, the appropriate support and/or training will be provided. Complies with Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) Policy. Performs work in production and non-production environments. Manages and documents the configuration of Linux-based systems. Manages and configures virtual machines supporting simulation applications. System design, configuration, and documentation of Linux-based systems. Performs audits of hardware and software and manages storage and backup. Applies operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes. Adds, removes, or updates user account information, including password resets. Optimises the performance of the system. Utilises ITSM tools, monitors tools routinely, responds to ticketing & scheduling priorities, annotates tickets with meaningful commentary, reassigns with approval, and marks 'complete' using standard criteria. Analyses system logs, identifies potential issues, and troubleshoots reported problems. Resource may be required to undertake travel. Qualifications & Skills Minimum 5 years of experience in Linux administration, ideally with exposure to Windows/Windows Server environments. Red Hat Certified System Administrator (or equivalent): Required for hands-on management of RHEL systems. ITIL Certification or strong ITIL service management experience: Preferred for ensuring best practices in service design and management. Proficiency in SQL/MYSQL, MSSQL, or Oracle databases and network coding. Deliverables System Configuration Documentation: Detailed configurations for RHEL systems and simulation applications. Monthly Reporting: Work effort and performance reports. Issue Resolution and Optimization Reports: Documentation of troubleshooting and system performance enhancements. SELECTION CRITERIA Linux System Administration Experience : Provide specific examples of managing Linux environments, focusing on RHEL systems and any related experience in military or high-security environments.
