We believe our people make the difference.About the roleThis position is funded by McGrath Foundation and provides care, information, and support for people with gastrointestinal cancer across the continuity of care pathways and multidisciplinary teams across the cancer care community within the Eastern Health demographic. The role will provide collaborative clinical and supportive care for people with gastrointestinal cancer and their families, along with the facilitation of communication across the multidisciplinary cancer care team. The Gastrointestinal Cancer Specialist Nurse will have expert knowledge regarding the spectrum of gastrointestinal cancer care inclusive of health assessment, treatment pathways, referrals, and ongoing facilitation of clinical and supportive cancer care.About youThe Gastrointestinal Cancer Specialist Nurse will:Act as a role model and an expert clinician in services to patients with gastrointestinal cancer.Provide leadership in the ongoing review of current clinical practice, ensuring it is evidence-based and benchmarked against peers to ensure best practice.Assess the individual needs of the patient with gastrointestinal cancer, their families, and carers and coordinate relevant support services in hospital and/or the community including palliative care services.Work in collaboration with the cancer nurses within the Health Service and greater cancer care network including telephone/telehealth cancer support services.Liase with the oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and allied health departments ensuring the continuity of care and services to patients with cancer.To be successful in this role you will have:Registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) via AHPRAA minimum of 5 years post-registration experience with a minimum of 3 years full-time equivalent experience in the field of cancer nursing and/or palliative carePost-graduate qualifications in cancer nursing and/or palliative careDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary frameworkDemonstrated understanding of the process of Quality Improvement and its importance to clinical practiceCommitment to education and professional development with demonstrated teaching skillsDemonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and commitment to excellence in nursing practice and research.Next StepsApply online if you feel we are a good match, you have the skills and qualities to make a difference, and are eligible to work in Australia.
