This high-profile Government Agency is seeking a Principal Policy Officer to join their Climate Division and contribute to the delivery of ambitious climate policies and programs that support Queensland's transition to a low-emissions future.
About the RoleAs a Principal Policy Officer, play a pivotal role in shaping Queensland's climate policies and programs.
You will work closely with the Emissions, Strategic Coordination, and Governance Branch to ensure that Queensland's climate policies and programs are informed by rigorous climate science presented in a clear and strategic way, and enable its use and understanding by individuals without a scientific background.
This role requires the ability to provide policy leadership within a team that can rapidly respond to complex issues and challenges in climate policy, particularly in relation to climate science and adaptation.
Seeking a clear and compelling communicator, who can build strong, trust-based relationships and translate complex science into strategic policy positions.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the knowledge brokering of climate science, working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver impactful climate policies.
Develop and deliver strategic projects, including policy analysis, governance arrangements, and program design.
Collaborate across government agencies and industry sectors to apply climate change data and support adaptation efforts.
Provide expert advice to senior management, community groups, and industry stakeholders on climate policy and programs.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with government, industry, and research institutions to drive climate action.
About You Proven experience in providing high-level policy advice and developing strategic policy positions.
A strong understanding of climate change science and adaptation, with the ability to translate complex information for diverse audiences.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing Cabinet submissions, briefings, and ministerial materials.
A collaborative approach, with a track record of building trust-based relationships and influencing stakeholders.
A commitment to fostering an inclusive and high-performing team culture.
Proactive leadership capabilities and previous experience leading a high-performing team.
