Simulation Technician - ACT

Overview:
Our client are seeking Simulation Technicians responsible for managing, maintaining, and configuring simulation systems to support ADF Joint Collective Training (JCT) activities.
This position will have a crucial role in coordinating closely with exercise and technical planning personnel, along with other contractors responsible for network infrastructure, to ensure the successful delivery of simulation effects during distributed training. Adaptability is essential, as the role involves learning new systems and processes within a complex environment and adhering to tight timelines.
The position:
As part of the Joint Collective Training Branch (J7-JCTB) at Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC), the Simulation Technicians will closely collaborate with the JCTB Joint Collective Training Directorate. Their key responsibilities will include:
* Providing specialized expertise on all simulation applications used by the JCTB.
* Operating, instructing, and maintaining various simulation applications and models during simulation events.
* Assisting in the integration of simulation applications with command and control (C2) systems.
* Supporting exercise planning staff and technical leads in converting event requirements into simulation design specifications, selecting suitable simulation applications, deploying equipment, and managing simulation applications during simulation-based events.
* Ensuring the interoperability of simulation software components essential for simulation-driven events.
* Guiding exercise and technical planners in understanding simulation capabilities relevant to military training objectives and the required simulation applications to support these objectives.
* Preparing, monitoring, and executing simulation test plans and events through the Simulation Control Cell (SIMCON).
Successful candidate must possess the following:
* Prior experience in Application or Customer Support, including hands-on involvement in on-site hardware setup and teardown.
* Exposure to Defence simulation environments and protocols is crucial, and knowledge of military simulation protocols, particularly DIS and HLA, is a significant advantage.
* Be familiar with various military simulation applications like JSAF, JCATS, and others. Proficiency in working within Linux and Windows environments, including the use of administrative tools via both command line and graphical user interfaces, is highly valued.
* A demonstrated, comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP networks, covering areas such as IP addressing, subnetting, connectivity diagnosis, and multicast, is essential.
* The ability to configure and operate distributed network applications efficiently.
* Red Hat Certified System Administrator or the ability to gain within 6 months of employment.
* A minimum NV1 Security Clearance is mandatory, with a willingness to upgrade to NV2. Additionally, the candidate must be open to travel within Australia and overseas to support training planning and execution activities.
