Options for hybrid or remote work arrangements may be considered.Position SummaryThe Supervisor in the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) at Southern Cross Institute (SCI) plays a critical role in providing supervision and guidance to social work students during their field education placements. This position is responsible for supporting students' professional development, ensuring adherence to the ASWEAS requirements and Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) standards, and promoting ethical and effective social work practice.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide individual and group supervision to social work students during their field placements.Offer guidance and support in navigating professional challenges and ethical dilemmas encountered in practice.Foster a supportive and reflective learning environment that promotes students' growth and development as social workers.Assist students in applying social work theories and frameworks to real-world practice settings.Facilitate opportunities for students to develop and enhance their clinical skills, including assessment, intervention, and case management.Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help students improve their practice competencies and achieve learning goals.Supervise students during placements with direct responsibility for the assessment of the learning outcomes from the experience.Model and promote ethical conduct and professional behavior in social work practice.Engage students in discussions about ethical principles, values, and dilemmas relevant to their field placements.Support students in understanding and upholding the AASW Code of Ethics, ASWEAS standards/requirements and other relevant professional standards.Provide a minimum of 1.5 hours of formal, structured supervision of students during every 35 hours of placement, at least half of which is on a one-to-one basis.Collaborate with Field Education Coordinator, FELO, staff members, and community partners to ensure alignment between academic coursework and field experiences.Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and case conferences to enhance collaboration and coordination of services for clients.Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and research in social work education and field supervision.Participate in professional development activities, such as workshops, conferences, and training, to enhance supervisory skills and knowledge.Pursue opportunities for peer consultation and supervision to support ongoing learning and growth as a supervisor.EssentialHigher degree in Social Work.Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).Must be a qualified social worker with a minimum of 2 years post-qualifying practice experience in social work.Previous experience in providing supervision or mentoring to social work students or professionals.Strong understanding of ethical principles and professional standards relevant to social work practice.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to support students' professional development.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, agency staff, and community partners.Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.Willingness to participate in relevant workshops, conferences, and training to enhance supervisory skills and knowledge.DesirablePrevious experience in social work or educational settings.Additional certifications or training in relevant areas.Experience providing supervision or support to students from diverse cultural backgrounds.Participation in relevant conferences, workshops, or training programs related to field education or social work practice.Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs and priorities within the field education.Equal Opportunity, Diversity and InclusionSCI is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to providing a workplace free from all forms of unlawful discrimination, harassment, bullying, vilification, and victimisation.
