About the Role
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, face-to-face teaching of undergraduate subjects within the School of Physics, using innovative, evidence-based methods for teaching and assessment. You will inspire students through dynamic lectures, tutorials, practicals, and workshops, while also coordinating subjects, assessing student performance, and providing support through consultations. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of subject content and teaching materials, with opportunities to explore pedagogical research and drive innovation within the School’s teaching practices.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Deliver select lectures, tutorials, practicals and/or workshops.
2. Contribute to the coordination, development and delivery of subject modules and subject / course material, with particular focus on First Year teaching in Physics.
3. Contribute to the development, marking and compilation of assessments, including assignments and examinations.
4. Participate in current teaching and assessment best practice initiatives in the School of Physics and Faculty of Science.
5. Provide academic mentoring and assistance to students
6. Contribute to teaching innovation in the School.
7. Provide training, mentoring and ongoing support for teaching practices within the School. This would be provided to tutors, demonstrators and all sessional and continuing staff undertaking educational activities.
Who We Are Looking For
You will be deeply passionate about both physics and education, with a strong commitment to enhancing student learning and fostering curiosity and critical thinking. Your enthusiasm for teaching will drive you to inspire students and continuously improve your teaching methods.
You will also have:
8. A PhD in physics and/or relevant experience in teaching or research.
9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the capacity to explain material plainly and constructively.
10. Evidence of contributions in lecturing and tutoring; and a commitment to teaching and contributing to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching programs
11. Ability to improvise and adapt to new demands, including exploring and implementing different teaching methods

The School also plays a major role in the Australian Synchrotron research program, and in the development of the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory.
Currently some 30 academics, 51 research-only staff, more than 95 postgraduate students and 72 associates supported by 23 professional staff make up the School of Physics. The School additionally hosts 1 Thomas Baker Chair and Melbourne Laureate Professor, 2 ARC Future Fellows and 1 ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher. Skilled technical staff operate, maintain and develop complex instrumentation and equipment to support the teaching and research activities of the School. The School is located in the David Caro building on the Swanston Street boundary of the University campus. The Head of School and majority of the Professional staff are housed on the ground floor of the building to act as the first point of contact for students, staff and visitors.
