Baggarook Caseload Midwifery
Begarook Caseload Midwifery is a specialised midwifery-led unit at the Women's hospital proudly providing care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
About the Role
As a Baggarrook Caseload Midwife you will value family-centred care and working with Community, both within the Women's and with external Aboriginal health services.
* You'll care for around 35 women per year, as well as providing back-up and support for other midwives in the Baggarrook team.
Your Responsibilities
* Manage an assigned caseload of pregnant women in an on-call capacity, respecting their culture, values and beliefs in the provision of culturally sensitive midwifery care
* Work closely within a cohesive caseload group as part of Maternity Services team
* Complete assessment of the health status of caseload women by interview, observation
* Assess, plan, develop, implement, document and evaluate midwifery and neonatal care in partnership with the women and other healthcare professionals
* Provide health education for women, families and other family supports
This position involves a large degree of autonomy and has periods of work that are scheduled and unscheduled, and requires a commitment to being on call to provide the best possible continuity of care.
About You
You will be someone with excellent communication and advocacy skills who is passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
* You'll have a demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and the issues affecting the health outcomes of First Nations women and newborns, as well as a general understanding of the social determinants of health
* You'll bring with you: Registration with AHPRA as a Midwife and a minimum of two years clinical midwifery experience across the continuum of midwifery care
* A commitment to providing care from a caseload and team care philosophy, and an understanding and acceptance of the rostering and on call arrangements related to the caseload model
