Project Engineer - Mechanical
The Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) project is an international effort supported by 16 countries to build the world's largest radio telescopes, led by the SKAO.
Ventia has been awarded a significant part of the contract and is leveraging our telecommunications capabilities for this exciting project.
Our scope includes the provision of power and fibre networks, and the design and commission of a Central Processing Facility (CPF) and Remote Processing Facilities (RPF) at the Australian site.
This role will encompass the full lifecycle of the project, beginning in Welshpool and later transitioning to the commissioning phase of the Central Processing Facility at Boolardy Station. From approximately March 2025, the position will shift to a 2/1 FIFO roster.
About the role:
Oversee HVAC design & installation: Lead the design, installation, and coordination of HVAC systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications and industry standards. Subcontractor management: Take charge of managing HVAC subcontractors, ensuring work is completed on schedule, to the highest quality, and fully compliant with safety regulations. Project coordination: Collaborate closely with design and planning teams to ensure HVAC activities align with project timelines, proactively identifying and addressing any potential delays. Design validation: Review and validate HVAC designs, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure precise implementation and performance. Testing & commissioning: Coordinate HVAC system testing and commissioning, working with relevant teams to ensure systems perform as intended. Documentation & reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation and provide regular updates to the project management team on progress, costs, and challenges. About you:
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Proven experience in mechanical systems installation and structural assembly on large-scale, complex projects. A deep understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical engineering principles, and structural integration. The ability to interpret and review technical designs, including mechanical and structural drawings. Strong subcontractor management skills, with experience ensuring work is delivered to project specifications, quality standards, and timelines. Experience collaborating with planning teams to ensure schedules align with overall project timelines. About Ventia
