The opportunity we have available
The Domestic Aviation and Reform (DAR) Division is seeking motivated APS6 team members to support the implementation of the Government’s aviation reform agenda, as outlined in the recently released Aviation White Paper.
The Division is responsible for promoting an efficient, sustainable, safe, competitive air transport system. The Division stewards the domestic aviation sector by regulating airports, investing strategically in aviation services, and advising government on policy to serve Australia’s interests.
The Domestic Policy and Programs Branch provides policy advice to the Government on domestic aviation issues to help support Australia’s way of life. This includes undertaking domestic aviation sector industry intelligence and economic analysis; developing advice to Government on domestic aviation policy issues; and representing the department and Government at meetings with airlines, airports and other industry stakeholders.
In addition, the Branch administers a number of aviation programs that facilitate air connectivity to regional and remote airports and communities, as well as a program to help encourage girls and women to choose aviation as a career.
The Branch will play a critical role in implementing measures that will improve planning on and around airports and best practice approaches to minimising the impacts of aircraft noise, as set out in the recently released Aviation White Paper: Towards 2050. As an APS6 officer within the Branch you will contribute to one or more of the following workstreams:
1. work in coordination with the National Airports Safeguarding Advisory Group to update National Airport Safeguarding Framework (NASF) guidance on best-practice approaches for including aircraft noise exposure notifications on property titles for new developments, and preparing educational and training material on the NASF for local planning officials.
2. work to develop guidance to pilots on ‘Flying Considerately’ to minimise noise impacts in residential areas, when operating under visual flight rules or outside of controlled airspace.
3. Updating guidelines for Community Aviation Consultation Groups to set out ministerial expectations for greater community input.
Depending on your background and skills, you may also be asked to assist in designing amendments to legislation and regulations to implement related measures announced in the Aviation White Paper.
Successful applicants for these roles will also be required to:
4. Support delivery of their team’s work program in line with relevant legislative, regulatory and governance frameworks.
5. Foster and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the sector.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following attributes:
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to generate high-quality written materials to support decision making.
7. Able to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Ability to work within a team that fosters a culture of informed decision-making, integrity and respect.
9. Capable of working to a professional standard in a high-pressure, complex environment, apply a high level of attention to detail while undertaking tasks and managing competing priorities.
10. Adaptability, resilience, and flexibility in the face of changing priorities.
11. Well-developed judgement, outcomes driven and highly adaptable.
Experience in regulation and/or legislative interpretation is desirable.
We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply.
