About The RoleJohn Hunter Hospital is seeking a dedicated Patient Transport Officer (PTO) to provide safe, timely, and effective transport for Hunter Retrieval Service staff and patients requiring inter-facility transport and ensure that appropriate standards of care are provided. When not required for retrieval duties, the successful applicant is required to work as a multi-skilled member of the John Hunter Hospital to provide non-clinical support within the Critical Care areas of the campus to complement the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient care.
Duties Will IncludeUndertake manual handling including pushing stretcher and leading stretcher into inter-facility vehicleAdhere to all RTA road rulesMaintain vehicles in a roadworthy condition in accordance with the HNELHD Motor Vehicle PolicyManage stock levelsCouriering items to/from departments within the John Hunter HospitalEssential RequirementsEligibility to drive in NSWCurrent First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003)Shift work availability – all shifts D, E and Night shift 24/7 serviceTraining And SupportYou will receive hands-on training from an experienced retrieval driver, including ride-along taskings to familiarise yourself with processes and best practices. Additionally, online education modules are available through MyHealth Learning. Support from your Line Manager and the Clinical Director is always accessible to assist you.
Where You'll Be WorkingThe Hunter Retrieval Service (HRS), critical care doctors, and nurses have been delivering inter-hospital retrieval services to our region for more than 25 years. Based at John Hunter Hospital, the HRS provides 24-hour/7 day week critical care advice, medical care, and transport for critically ill and injured patients located within Hunter New England, Mid-North Coast, and beyond. Patients are transported by road, helicopter, and/or fixed-wing aircraft. The inter-hospital retrieval team is comprised of a Senior Intensive Care Nurse and a Consultant or Senior Trainee from Emergency, Anaesthetics, or Intensive Care.
