Yawoorroong Miriuwung Gajerrong Yirrgeb Noong Dawang Aboriginal Corporation (MG Corporation) was established in 2006 to receive and manage the benefits transferred under the OFA to the MG People, who are recognised under Australian law as holding Native Title over large areas in the North of Western Australias east Kimberley region.
The Position
The primary objective of the Ranger Program Coordinator (RPC) is to manage and deliver the MG Corporation strategic vision for Country, Culture and Community. This position is supported by the MG Corp. Board of Directors and the R31165 Committee.
The role of the RPC is to support the MG Corporation Peoples aspiration to develop and implement a MG Corporation Ranger Team to establish and sustain various Ranger activities for the long-term benefit of the MG Corporations People and their Country, Culture and Community.
A person with leadership skills and demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Rangers in Australia is needed to develop and grow the MG Corporation Ranger Team and implement various Ranger activities as identified in the Project Plan including water monitoring, fire management, fauna monitoring, weed management and other land management Ranger projects.
The RPC will be expected to support positive engagement of the MG Corporation Rangers within the community and build a team of confident and competent Rangers through proper mentoring and training opportunities. The RPC reports to the CSM.
Key Responsibilities
Organisation & Implementation
1. Supporting the implementing Ranger initiatives outlined in the Project Plan.
2. Ensuring that the MG Corporation Ranger program and work activities remain consistent with Traditional Owners aspirations.
3. Coordinating logistical and administrative support of land management to protect Country, Culture and Community.
4. Working with various expert consultants and partners to deliver successful Ranger partnership projects and programs.
5. Building workforce capacity to deliver the MG Corporation Ranger initiatives, in partnership with various stakeholders including community members, mining companies, government and NGOs.
6. Planning and delivering the MG Corporation Ranger program in accordance with funding guidelines.
Supervising, Mentoring & Training
7. Managing, recruiting, developing and retaining the MG Corporation Ranger Team.
8. Supervising and mentoring the MG Corporation Ranger team, ensuring activities are performed in a timely and safe manner.
9. Working with the MG Corporation Rangers to develop their personal and project skills, leadership abilities and work ethic.
10. Coordinating delivery of training to ensure staff are suitably qualified to use the required assets safely and competently.
11. Maximising on-the-job training opportunities, ensuring practical learning outcomes during fieldwork.
12. Ensuring formal certification of the MG Corporation Rangers to solidify both confidence and competence in the Ranger Team and support positive engagement of the Rangers within the community.
13. Coordinating regular land patrols of associated MG Corporation Ranger projects.
Reporting, Monitoring & Evaluation
14. Organising data collection, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on MG Corporation Ranger project outcomes.
15. Keeping the CSM and the MG Corporation management informed on the health and wellbeing of Country.
16. Completing records and associated paperwork in relation to MG Corporation Ranger activities, training, and program delivery, in accordance with organisational and reporting requirements.
17. Co-ordinating management of critical field tools and equipment, through effective asset management to ensure MG Corporation Rangers can access critical field equipment as needed to implement MG Corporation Ranger projects and achieve objectives.
18. Preparing authentic, high-quality reports and budgets for funding bodies and partners.
19. Coordinating regular asset and infrastructure maintenance including all tools, equipment and vehicles (4WDs, trailers and boats).
20. Maintaining spatial and other data records of activities undertaken.
Health & Safety
21. Establishing a safety-first workplace culture.
22. Ensuring safety policies and procedures are paramount in all activities.
23. Identifying and supporting the development of policies and procedures that ensure the safety of staff, facilities and initiatives.
24. Facilitating a culturally safe working environment through implementation of relevant policies and procedures.
25. Leading the establishment of standard operating procedures to ensure that the MG Corporation Ranger team continues to grow in capacity and professionalism, with specific emphasis on safe working practices to ensure Workplace Health and Safety compliance.
Administration
26. Assisting in the management of contracts, budgets and the development of fee-for-service opportunities.
27. Ensuring that the administrative procedures and financial management practices of the MG Corporation Ranger team are effective and consistently applied.
28. Building productive project partnerships, with community, government agencies, and other organisations.
Other Tasks
29. Performing other duties as requested by the CSM and MG Corp, Management and R31165 committee.

40. Laison with members and cultural protocols appropriately.
41. Maintain strict confidentiality and professional approach, when dealing with incoming and outgoing communications (e.g., telephone, electronic, hard copy and in person)
both with members and other parties.
42. Participate in performance reviews and professional development as required, including undertaking further training;
43. Prepare financial information for the external accountant as required.
Selection Criteria
Essential
44. Qualifications In Natural Resource Management, Land Management or similar or relevant similar experience.
45. Demonstrable ability to effectively communicate and cooperate with Traditional Owners to manage and support the delivery of Ranger projects.
46. Significant practical experience in planning and implementing Ranger projects and activities related to natural and cultural resource management programs on Aboriginal lands.
47. Demonstrated leadership experience and confidence in working with Aboriginal communities.
48. Experience working with a team as a team leader with minimal supervision and at times, in remote areas.
49. Demonstrated capacity to remain focused, positive, adaptive and organised in a challenging and dynamic work environment.
50. High-level communication skills, ability to work with Elders, and to both lead and support as a member of a team in an indigenous-led organisation.
51. Sound knowledge of risk management procedures and practical experience implementing Health, Safety and Environment legislative requirements.
52. Demonstrated experience in project management, including capacity to manage logistics for remote fieldwork.
53. Experience in report writing and drafting policies and procedures related to the delivery of Ranger programs and the health and wellbeing of Ranger staff.
54. Experience in financial management of a program budget and ensuring compliance with administrative processes.
55. An ability to build networks and develop sustainable partnerships, working with the needs of a diverse range of relevant stakeholders.
56. Current valid drivers license; off-road experience and recovery skills. Maintaining a licence is a condition of ongoing employment in this role.
57. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Indigenous social and cultural challenges and a willingness to commit to community empowerment, training and development.
58. Experience with on country use of technology for monitoring and reporting.
59. Willingness to move/live in Kununurra, Western Australia.
Desirable:
60. Previous experience leading Aboriginal Ranger teams.
61. High level of computer literacy and proficiency with PCs including word processing, spreadsheet use and data software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
62. High level technical or trade skills relevant to the ranger program (i.e., fencing, construction, fire and weed management, GIS, cultural mapping, plant and animal identification, small engine maintenance, erosion remediation, water monitoring).
Qualifications and experience required/to be maintained:
63. A current WA C Class Drivers Licence;
64. Provide a National Police Check;
