Founded in 1944 as a general store in Nuriootpa, it has evolved into a successful group of nine retail businesses located around a vibrant regional shopping centre. With over 21,000 members today, up from just 771 in 1945, Barossa Co-op remains an essential part of the local community. Thousands of members actively contribute to the region’s economic growth by shopping locally and investing in membership.
The Co-op is now seeking a General Manager to oversee the Mitre 10, Betta, and The Design Studio teams. Reporting to the CEO, this leadership role is crucial for driving both short and long-term business objectives, identifying growth opportunities, and implementing strategies approved by the CEO and Board. The General Manager will manage daily operations, ensuring performance targets are met while focusing on customer satisfaction and business profitability; and form part of the Executive team that oversees the overall Barossa Co-op business.
The ideal candidate will bring over 10 years of experience in the retail industry, particularly in hardware, trade, or building sectors. A proven track record in team leadership, driving sales growth, and executing successful business strategies is essential. Strong financial acumen, excellent communication skills, and a passion for team development are critical for success. The role will require collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, the Executive team and the Barossa Co-op Board. Experience in budget management, inventory control, and regulatory compliance is also necessary.
