The Disability Advocate position is offered either part time or full time and paid under the SCHADS award.A 12 month contract is being offered with a possibility of a 12 month extension on the basis of satisfactory performance.Level to be negotiated and dependent on experience.ABOUT US At Advocacy WA, we are dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities living in the Southwest of WA.We provide independent, confidential advocacy to ensure people's voices are heard, their rights are respected, and they have access to the services they need.Our team is committed to promoting social justice, inclusion, and human rights, working tirelessly to make a positive difference in the lives of those who need it most.By joining us, you'll be part of a passionate, values-driven team advocating for a more equitable society.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide Individual Advocacy Support: Assist people with disabilities understand and exercise their rights.Resolve issues related to services, housing, employment, education, health etc.Support clients to self-advocate.Information, Advice, and Referrals: Provide clear, up-to-date information about rights, support services, such as NDIS & DSP.Advise clients on how to navigate complex systems and refer them to relevant services as needed.Representation and Mediation: Represent clients in meetings or disputes with service providers and government agencies.Mediate conflicts to improve service delivery and resolve client issues.Support with NDIS Access and Plan Management: Guide clients through the NDIS process, including access, planning, and reviews.Ensure clients receive the supports and services specified in their NDIS plans.Work Practices and Standards: Ensure that personal work practices align with ethical standards, AWA policies, and monthly deliverables.Follow best practice models and frameworks in all advocacy activities.Quality Service Provision: Deliver high-quality services in compliance with National Disability Standards, and all relevant legislation.Collaboration and Networking: Work with other services and organizations to ensure comprehensive support for clients.Build partnerships to improve disability services and awareness.Professional Development: Contribute to own professional development within Advocacy WA.Community Engagement: Actively promote Advocacy WA through community events and representation at local meetings.Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of client interactions, advocacy activities, and outcomes.Prepare reports and provide feedback to ensure continuous service improvement.Other Duties: Perform other duties as directed by the CEO or Senior Advocate, contributing to the overall goals and initiatives of Advocacy WA.SELECTION CRITERIA Minimum, bachelor's degree majoring in Social Work, Psychology, or equivalent.Experience and high-level skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation.Knowledge of individual advocacy, contemporary disability and mental health, disability support services, NDIS, and disability legislation.Ability to think critically and creatively to research, assess, plan and evaluate strategies that assist clients to resolve issues.High level communication skills, including:the ability to communicate with people experiencing cognitive/speech disabilitiesthe ability to write reports for funding bodies, government, etcthe ability to effectively present and develop information sessions and community engagement activitiesable to use computer applications including Microsoft Office.High level empathy skills demonstrated by treating colleagues, clients and stakeholders with care, respect, dignity, transparency, and confidentiality.Ability to work autonomously and in a small team and able to successfully manage and deal with a variety of personalities.Highly developed organisational, administrative and time management skills and ability to work under pressure, be flexible and adaptive, manage multiple networks and meet deadlines.CLEARANCES & HEALTH Current Police ClearanceWorking with Children ClearanceCurrent 'C Class' License – must be prepared to frequently travel across the South West region as required, which may include overnight stays.Current First Aid Certificate is desirableAny health issues or matters that may affect the person's ability to perform the duties above to the expectations of the Board must be disclosed.Current COVID-19 and flu vaccinations or be prepared to be vaccinated before beginning employment (as per AWA WHS Policy).Applicants must address the above selection criteria in their application.Resume only applications will not be considered.CONTACT DETAILS LOCATION & DETAILS Salary Sacrifice- Eligible to salary sacrifice an amount of up to $18,550 per annum. #J-18808-Ljbffr
