The Baggage Operations Coordinator (BOC) is responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of WSI’s departures make-up and arrivals processes. This includes overseeing the allocation and management of baggage system resources while maintaining the efficient flow of both standard and oversize baggage through the handling systems. You will liaise with the Baggage Service Provider (BSP) to monitor performance and ensure baggage operations align with on-time departures. In addition, the BOC will track the supply of Unit Load Device (ULD) containers, ensuring their availability at the make-up interface and timely removal of completed loads to support operational efficiency. The role also requires collaboration with the Ramp & Baggage Supervisor to coordinate resources for Business Contingency Procedures (BCP) related to baggage systems, ensuring continuity during disruptions. Note: This position will initially be performed within regular business hours to support the development of processes and procedures. It will then transition to shift work to support WSI’s operational trials and testing of process and procedures, prior to the airport commencing live operations when the role will require permanent shift work. Key responsibilities : Liaise with airlines and the Baggage Handling System (BHS) contractor to plan and manage daily and seasonal flight schedules using the baggage system High Level Controller. Monitor baggage batch assembly ensuring proper allocation to designated loading resources. Track aircraft arrivals to manage high inbound baggage volumes within the Baggage Handling System. Coordinate with the BSP to ensure sufficient staffing for inbound and outbound baggage activities, with a focus on speed loaders and baggage chute allocations. Oversee storage capacity and the clearance process for outbound oversize baggage operations. Assess and address resource demands for manual encoding operations. Maintain effective communication with airlines and Ground Handling Agents (GHA) for flight preparations, resource allocation, and baggage transfers. Supervise BSP performance in unloading incoming baggage and ensure clear segregation between international and domestic baggage. Coordinate with the BHS contractor to manage planned maintenance schedules and address any system malfunctions. Coordinate with the WSI Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) to manage contingency plans, ensure clearance of arrival carousels, and support broader airport operations. Assist in organising resources to address system outages and implement business continuity measures. Oversee the allocation and utilisation of Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS). About You 3-5 years previous experience in either warehouse distribution systems coordination, parcel freight sortation systems control or airport baggage systems operations. Proven ability to plan and execute tasks. Strong focus on maintaining safe and efficient work practices. Strong attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Outstanding problem-solving skills with the capability to anticipate and manage potential issues. Demonstrated ability to apply insights from previous incidents to improve operations and minimize recurrence. Proficiency in data analysis and interrogation to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Experience with complex computer systems and ability to learn new systems quickly.
