Providing one-on-one support to people seeking asylum as they strive to achieve their employment, training and education goals.23rd January, 2025Position: Employment AdvisorProgram Area: Employment ServicePurpose / ObjectiveEmployment Advisors volunteer in the ASC Employment Hub, providing one-on-one support to people seeking asylum as they strive to achieve their employment, training and education goals.Reports to:Employment Service ManagerCommitment Period:- Minimum 6 monthsCommitment Requested: 5 hours / weekDuties & ResponsibilitiesSupport people who attend the ASC Employment Hub to:Develop resumes and cover letters, utilising ASC templatesApply for Tax File Numbers (where required)Apply for jobs and build job search skillsEvaluate and apply for roles with ASC Employer PartnersPrepare for job interviewsComplete pre-employment paperworkIdentify and/or enrol in relevant work readiness and training opportunitiesCollect and record information in our database about a person's education and training, skills and experience, English proficiency and readiness for workLink people with relevant internal and external supports or services as appropriateProvide assistance from a people-centred and strengths-based perspectiveRecord the details of your meetings in our database and keep records updatedEngage in peer-to-peer briefing and debriefing sessions with fellow volunteers and ASC staff to continually improve our ServiceRegularly check ASC emails to stay up to date with Centre news and process updatesAttend team meetings and training sessions, generally once every two monthsSelection CriteriaA sound understanding of the Australian job seeking and employment landscapeExperience with resume, cover letter and application writingStrong customer service and communication skills including active listening, relationship building, problem-solving, efficiency, empathy and collaborationExperience in working with people from various backgrounds and culturesAn understanding of issues affecting people seeking asylum in AustraliaAn understanding of, or willingness to learn about, trauma-informed practiceIntermediate computer skills; confidence using Google products (Mail, Calendar and Drive) and confidence using (or willingness and ability to learn) how to use a databaseAbility to work collaboratively and thoughtfully with other team membersFlexibility and willingness to think outside the box and take initiativeAbility to adhere to our code of conduct and boundaries and confidentiality policiesStrong prioritisation and time management skills, and attention to detailExperience in coaching, mentoring and/or training is beneficialGeneral ConditionsAll ASC staff and volunteers are required to:Adhere to ASC's vision, purpose and values - compassion, connection, collaboration, innovation, and people-centredAct at all times in accordance with ASC's Code of Conduct and Child Protection PoliciesComply with Work, Health and Safety systemsComply with Incident Management Procedures and Emergency protocolsDemonstrate respectful and welcoming behaviour with all people at ASC in culturally appropriate waysHave received at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.Support a child-safe organisation by undertaking an NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement and ensuring it is up-to-date
