Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for filling similar roles. Applicants may be offered a future role, without the need to reapply. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months.

Position Overview
As a Senior WHS Advisor at the Department of Education, you will be responsible for providing targeted support and advice to stakeholders, implementing health and safety strategies and initiatives, facilitating hazard and risk management, and supporting compliance activities with Commonwealth WHS legislation. You will work with our Health and Wellbeing team to respond to incidents and develop effective and enduring responses.
The key duties of the position include:
* Facilitating implementation of the Department's Work Health and Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation.
* Providing specialist WHS advice, assistance and support to workers and managers.
* Managing the implementation of workplace inspections and other risk management activities, to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with legislation and departmental policies.
* Initiating, guiding and promoting consultation, collaboration and communication with key internal and external stakeholders.
* Managing a network of Health and Safety Representatives.
* Conducting systematic analysis of workplace hazards and incidents to identify trends and support a continuous improvement approach.
* Managing secretariat functions for Work Health Safety Committee Meetings.
* Undertaking specific project or program work.
Employment Conditions
* Citizenship: Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
* Security Clearance: This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
