As one of Australia's largest energy providers, we are proud of our purpose to lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all.The TeamThe Pricing, Analysis & Systems team within the Trading & Transition business unit is responsible for managing, enhancing, and extending EnergyAustralia's electricity and gas wholesale market analyses, forecasting and modelling capabilities to ensure that planning, trading, strategy, and policy decisions are informed by an in-depth understanding of and insight into market drivers and directions.About the RoleEmbedded within the Pricing, Analysis & Systems team, you would be part of the team driving delivery of key operational metrics such as usage forecasts, customer numbers and gas & electricity loads.As an Energy Forecasting – Data Scientist, your insights will empower Trading & Transition to optimise their strategies and maximise value, making a real impact on our company's success. Some of your key responsibilities will include:Design and test advanced forecasting models for gas and electricity demands, using techniques such as machine learning models and linear regression.Deliver gas and electricity load forecasts, in accordance with the approved processes in place.Run simulations and back-testing of forecasts using historical weather data.Provide forward-looking insights into the future direction of the business.Communicate the drivers to changing demand characteristics of each customer group.Effectively manage internal relationships with the Customer and Trading & Transition business units analytical teams and functions.About youTertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, statistics, data science, engineering or actuarial studies).Postgraduate qualifications or Masters degree in a relevant field is highly desirable.Experience in time series forecasting and strong analytical and modelling capabilities.Experience in handling large data sets across disparate data sources.Experience using programming languages/environments such as SQL, R, and Python in cloud technologies (Databricks) and experience with reporting and visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI).If you share our passion for a clean energy future for all and want to join us #Doing.
