A number of our larger retail stores also have a distribution warehouse. This is where the organisational and logistical skills of Retail Warehouse Team Members are needed to assist in the smooth operation of the warehouse ensuring efficient, orderly and safe intake and storage of donated goods, as well as assist with managing waste and recycling. Key responsibilities • Organising: Retail Warehouse Team Members bring their strong sense of order and tidiness by ensuring items are received, manoeuvred and stored safely and efficiently. Assist in seasonal stocktakes. • Quality control: Retail Warehouse Team Members initially inspect donated items, determining their appropriateness for sale, functionality and good presentation. Unsuitable items are sorted into recyclable or waste disposal areas. • Team Work: Work with the Retail Assistants and Sorters in bringing the saleable items out to the shop floor and help customers with bringing donations to the warehouse loading dock. Bring along your ideas, suggestions and concerns to the regular team meetings and join in on celebrations and special occasions. • Safety: Apply your care and concern to ensure customers, visitors, you and your team are kept safe by always adhering to safe work practices. Help ensure all warehouse equipment and staff areas are kept clear of hazards and are tidy and clean. Keep children safe by always abiding by Salvation Army’s child safe policies and code of conduct. Background check requirements Background checks play an important part in our commitment to being a safe organisation. Where an applicant has disclosable history, the selection process includes a fair assessment and a risk management approach. Development opportunities with this role This role will give volunteers an opportunity to develop skills and build experience in retail warehousing and logistics, sorting and stocking of shelves, as well as experience in working as a part of a team. Volunteers will receive on the job training and support, working alongside experienced retail professionals in a caring and supportive environment.
