The Role In this uniquely varying role, you will provide the hydrometric data that is relied upon to inform decisions about the sustainable management of the State's water resources. You will operate and maintain a network of remote surface and groundwater monitoring assets, planning and conducting extensive fieldwork, then in the office you will analyse, process and publish the data produced to Departmental specifications and quality standards. You will demonstrate strong personal leadership and positivity, teamwork, collaboration, and technical aptitude. You will be provided training, mentoring and the support of your team. This position will require extensive overnight travel to remote locations across southern Queensland. Key Accountabilities: Operate and maintain the monitoring networks with a particular focus on surface water and ground water, including collecting and processing of hydrometric data, collecting water samples and conducting stream flow measurements. Assist in the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of technical equipment and assets associated with water monitoring data collection. Compute, process, store, manipulate and retrieve ground water and surface water data. Participate in short and medium-term water related projects on a needs-basis. Develop skills and knowledge of the principles of water monitoring and associated technology through in house and external training. Maintain a high level of personal and team safety within the guidelines of safe practices and procedures. Interact with other water functional groups, managers, departmental staff and clients. You will be required to drive a manual motor vehicle. About You Hold a bachelor's degree in Agricultural or Environmental Science, Biology, Applied Science or Natural Resource Management. A degree qualification in either hydrology, groundwater modelling, geology, engineering, geoscience, science, or applied science is a mandatory requirement. A current driver's licence: preferably which allows use of a vehicle with a manual transmission. It is desirable that the applicant may have: A Diploma in Hydrography. Off-road driving experience. A medium level of fitness to do physical labour tasks. That is, the applicant must be able to walk up and down stream banks or ladders. Be able to dig holes or use a sledgehammer and have the ability to swim 50m fully clothed. Previous experience using small machinery and tools such as generators, pumps, drills and grinders.
