Roadways, Tasmania's largest surfacing provider, is seeking an experienced and proactive Asphalt Plant & Logistics Manager to oversee the operations of its Asphalt Plants in Bridgewater and Burnie and manage logistical operations across both sites. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for plant operations, logistics coordination, business development, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will work alongside a talented team to modernise plant facilities, manage bitumen procurement and logistics, and develop efficiencies that benefit the company and clients alike.

About the Role This hands-on leadership role reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer and is an essential part of the continued success of Roadways. You will oversee the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of our two Asphalt plants, manage raw material procurement and logistics and work on modernising plant equipment and processes. Your role will include maintaining quality production standards, ensuring environmental and safety compliance, and leading teams across various areas including logistics, production and business development.
You will be key to maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration, and improving processes to enhance plant performance. Additionally, you will identify and pursue new business opportunities, contributing to the company's growth and service excellence.
Responsibilities Plant Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the asphalt plants, including bitumen ordering and logistics, raw material management, production schedules, etc.Logistics: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the small fleet of rigid body trucks and trailers to ensure the timely delivery of asphalt to our paving crews, delivery of all in-bound plant raw materials and provision of bulk haulage services for external clients when required.Continuous Improvement & Plant Modernisation: Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including the modernisation of plant infrastructure, installation and upgrade of plant control systems, and improved equipment reliability via preventative maintenance practices.Cost & Resource Management: Implement tight cost controls and ensure optimal resource management and cost control across people, raw materials, utilities and equipment through effective scheduling and rostering.Sustainability: Work closely with the maintenance and technical departments to identify and implement sustainability initiatives to measure and reduce the environmental impacts of the two asphalt plants.Safety & Quality Compliance: Uphold safety, quality, and environmental standards across all operations, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.Business Development: Identify and capitalise on sales and service delivery opportunities to drive business growth, enhancing the company's service offering.Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to produce and deliver high-quality products and services in accordance with client specifications.Additional Skills & Experience Proven experience in managing asphalt plant operations (or similar production environments), logistics coordination, bitumen imports, and production efficiency improvements.Background in plant maintenance, both fixed and mobile, and an understanding of modern plant technologies.Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated experience in business growth opportunities.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with stakeholders at all levels.Strong knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental legislation and best practices.Commercial acumen with a focus on cost control and budget management.About You Relevant qualifications or extensive experience in asphalt/concrete plant management roles.Proven ability to manage teams and lead operations efficiently.Proficiency with MS Office and web-based platforms.Self-driven, able to prioritise tasks effectively, and work autonomously in a dynamic environment.About the Company Roadways is a leading provider of quality road solutions throughout Tasmania, with a commitment to delivering superior products and services.
