The Opportunity
This position is offered as a 12-month non-ongoing contract, with the potential for extension. You will join a close-knit finance team that fosters an excellent working environment where collaboration is highly valued. Additionally, the role includes the benefit of free parking.
The Role
As the EL1 Management Accountant, your key responsibilities will include:
* Managing the agency’s internal budget and performing management accounting functions
* Producing monthly management reports and preparing Senate estimates briefs, responses to questions on notice, and other statistical and report requests
* Coordinating the Commonwealth budget, including preparing and submitting New Policy Proposals (NPPs), drafting the agency’s section of the portfolio budget statement, and providing support to business units on NPP development, cost estimates, and detailed justifications
* Maintaining budget data within CBMS and FMIS
* Managing general ledger accounts, payroll transactions, and addressing account-related inquiries
* Assisting with financial accounting tasks when required
The Ideal Person
Our ideal candidate will likely come from one of two backgrounds. You may be an experienced EL1 Management Accountant or Finance Business Partner with strong technical accounting skills and relevant tertiary qualifications. While CPA or CA qualifications are highly desirable, your ability to navigate complex financial systems and deliver results will be equally valued. Alternatively, you might have a consulting background, working at the Manager level or above in a Big 4 or similar consulting firm, with experience in Federal Government engagements related to management accounting.
It is essential to demonstrate a proactive approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to influence others to resolve accounting challenges effectively. Familiarity with the Federal Government budget framework and experience with TechnologyOne are also crucial.
To be eligible for these roles, you must be an Australian citizen and hold a Baseline security clearance.
