About the Role The Director of Finance is responsible for leading the budget and business partnering teams and the financial accounting and reporting teams to deliver the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the organisation and ensuring that all of Berry Street - Yooralla's financial management processes are efficient, accurate and meet appropriate timelines.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance, this position typically has between 2 and 4 direct reports and approximately 20 staff in total and is accountable for managing Berry Street – Yooralla's budget and financial accounting and reporting functions.
This includes the accurate reporting of financial results, both internally and externally and managing financial information and business partnering relationships across both the Disability and Child, Youth and Families businesses.
Key Responsibilities: Work with the Executive Director Finance to build a new Berry Street - Yooralla finance team and new team culture leveraging learnings and best practice across the existing teams Ensure that Berry Street - Yooralla meets its budgeting and financial reporting accountabilities in a timely manner and in compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards and accountability systems.
Lead, support and develop staff within the teams to uplift capability and create a high performing team with a positive can do culture.
Lead the consolidation of two existing finance systems into one, with a new chart of accounts and consistent policies and procedures across the combined organisation.
Lead and champion improvement initiatives and key projects (process improvement, training, automation, systems improvement, system integration, etc.)
through all stages including identification, design, build, testing, training, comms and deployment.
Identify business continuity risks to budgeting and financial reporting service delivery and develop readiness and response plans for critical services.
Budget and Business Partnering Financial Accounting and Reporting Qualifications & Skills: Extensive senior leadership experience in budgeting or financial reporting within a complex organisational environment.
Experience of bringing existing teams together to build a new team with a positive team culture and managing through change.
Demonstrated experience managing a significant whole of organisation budgeting or reporting process.
In-depth knowledge of budgeting, accounting and reporting processes and best practices, with a strategic focus on driving organisational effectiveness.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
Proven track record of leading and managing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Strong strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to solve complex problems and make data-driven decisions.
Expertise in continuous improvement within a finance team with a focus on enhancing systems and processes.
Extensive experience in developing and maintaining dashboards and SLAs to monitor and improve service performance.
Ability to provide strategic advice on complex finance issues and supporting senior leadership in decision-making.
Ensure strategic oversight of compliance requirements, including tax requirements, and providing guidance and direction to ensure organisational adherence to legal and regulatory standards (including the accounting standards).
