Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Drafting legal documents, such as complaints and summonses in relation to breaches of the Acts and Regulations administered by the department, while ensuring that legislative and policy considerations are applied.
• Preparing matters for sentence
• Appearing as an advocate in the Magistrates Court (in its criminal jurisdiction) for mentions and sentences. Appearing on behalf of the department in Applications for Special Hardship Orders in the Magistrates Court (in its civil jurisdiction).
• Consulting, liaising, and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to resolve evidentiary issues, and develop recommendations, strategies and/or policies.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
• Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
• You must hold a degree in Law and be admitted as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland.
• You must have an open or provisional driver licence as travel in department vehicles is required to attend courts across south-east Queensland.
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
• Experience as a junior lawyer or significant pre-admission experience as a law clerk or paralegal.
• Experience in the provision of legal advice as a junior lawyer and provision of advocacy services in a litigation or regulatory compliance environment in a junior capacity or as a law clerk.
• Experience in building and/or maintaining relationships with investigating officers or clients.
• Demonstrated experience working individually and in group environments to deliver common goals.
• Demonstrated experience applying legal principles in the execution of a legal function
