They serve as the primary negotiator for commercial research contracts, ensuring terms meet UQ's standards, legal/ethical requirements, and mutual partner needs. Key responsibilities will include: Manage and develop commercial research agreements aligned with UQ's research agenda to support the University's agenda and the mutual needs of our partners. Apply leading commercial principles in partnership dialogue with partners, identifying and resolving any issues, risks and performance gaps to support successful outcomes of the contract research project, liaising with other areas across UQ. Evaluate proposals and assess commercial factors such as pricing, legal and Intellectual Property ramifications, liaising with units such as Legal Services, Governance & Risk and with UniQuest to seek advice on structuring commercial arrangements to mitigate risk, ensure compliance and IP pathways including commercialisation, contract research and social licence. Build strong, long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating with partners and advising researchers on contractual milestones for sustained success. Maintain precise records, enforce document controls, and train staff on research commercial principles, pricing, and UQ's Business Principles. Drive continuous innovation for efficient service delivery, uphold UQ values, and contribute to broader Research Office objectives. About You Postgraduate qualifications (or progress toward them) or equivalent extensive experience in management, ideally within the tertiary education or research sectors. Proven skills in research contract administration and autonomous management experience within large, complex institutions. Demonstrated success in engaging with industry and research partners, and expertise in contract research negotiations. Strong understanding of intellectual property management and knowledge transfer, with the ability to review complex agreements and engage effectively with lawyers. High-level communication and organizational skills, including the ability to assimilate new information rapidly, prioritize effectively, and work under pressure to meet deadlines. Project management expertise focused on achieving outcomes and ensuring policy compliance; knowledge of higher education research funding and a legal background are desirable.
