Position Summary:
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, the Senior Design Engineer takes a broad mechanical design project scope and creates the more specific framework from which the Design Draftsmen will work.
Key Result Areas include but are not limited to:
* Design and deliver technical solutions that meet the requirements and scope of the projects.
* Create a framework around the initial structure and scope of mechanical design projects to ensure that the functionality is fit for purpose and within budget.
* Ensure sufficient level of detail is developed for the design to progress to the next stage of development.
* Specify components to be ‘bought in’ citing calculations and justification for this where applicable.
* Develop quotes for mechanical designs using SAGE Automation estimation tools and procedures.
* Ensure that risk identification and contingency planning are addressed.
* Provide expert technical advice and reports as required.
* Ability to produce effective concepts and engineering content and communication to the Design Draftsmen.
To be successful, you will have:
* A trade or tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
* Extensive proven industry experience working as a Design Engineer.
* Verifiable knowledge of systems, engineering principles and practice.
* A solid track record of project management including cost control and risk management.
* Experience in mechanical concept and detail design, machine design and special purpose machinery.
