ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Indigenous Health Project Lead (IHPL) will support the Integrated Team Care (ITC) Workforce (Care Coordinators and Outreach Workers) employed in services that receive ITC funding across the Northern Territory. The ITC program aims to ensure a focus on Indigenous health and chronic disease, contribute to closing the gap in life expectancy and aims to improve care integration and coordination. The IHPL will work in close collaboration with AMSANT, specifically the Top End Indigenous Health Project Officer (IHPO) and ACCH organisations that employ ITC Care Coordinators and Outreach workers to actively support opportunities that enhance the improvement of Indigenous health and care coordination. The role will also support strategic projects specifically including the review of funding arrangements for Aboriginal Primary Health Priorities such as the ITC program.
This role will suit a candidate that has experience and high-level knowledge in providing strategic guidance and the ability to facilitate coordination between various health services and Indigenous health care workers in the sector. This role is designated as Indigenous Identified as it is intended to constitute a special measure under s 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s 57 (1) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT). Furthermore, under s 35 (1) (b) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT), it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
5. Sound knowledge of and significant work experience in Chronic Disease in Indigenous Health including an understanding of the social determinants of health
6. High level of knowledge and awareness of the Health and Community Services Sector (Government and Non-Government) in the Northern Territory and on a national scale (including an understanding of the COAG targets to close the gap in Indigenous disadvantage).
7. Effective interpersonal skills to engage, collaborate, negotiate and form working relationships with a range of stakeholders to achieve ITC program objectives and specific ITC workforce outputs and outcomes.
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of internal and external partners and stakeholders in an environment requiring cultural sensitivity.
9. Proven ability to manage projects and coordinate simultaneous activities in an environment of competing demands and priorities.
10. Proven ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous people and sound cross-cultural skills.
11. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to plan and adapt responses according to needs.
12. Personal attributes such as initiative, energy, commitment to teamwork and collaboration, focus on outcomes and respect for others coupled with the ability to motivate and support staff in a culturally diverse environment.
13. Current NT driver’s license and the ability to travel within the NT by road or light aircraft.
